Turriff Fit Calculator
Providing comprehensive measurements ensures a more precise sizing suggestion.
Sizing and How to Measure
Turriff lasts are shaped like real feet. This design allows footwear to fit precisely where it needs to, often appearing and fitting slightly shorter than conventional shoes because there is less wasted space in front of the toes.
For a standard fit, selecting a half-size below your standard North American Men's shoe size is recommended. For a precision verified fit, follow the sizing exercise below.
The Tools Required
A piece of paper larger than the foot.
A pencil or slim pen.
A wall and a hard floor (avoid carpet).
A ruler and or soft measuring tape or a piece of string which can be marked and measured against a ruler. (measurements in millimetres are preferred).
Step 1: The Wall Trace (Length & Width)
The Wall Method provides a stable reference point for the heel, ensuring the most accurate length measurement.
Set-up: Place the paper on the floor, flush against the wall.
Position: Stand on the paper with the heel firmly against the wall. Distribute weight evenly on both feet.
Length: Hold the pencil perfectly vertical (90 degrees). Mark the tip of the longest toe.
Width: While still standing, mark the widest points of the foot (the joints at the base of the big and little toes).
Measure: Use a ruler to measure from the edge of the paper to the toe mark for Foot Length. Measure between the width marks to find the Foot Bottom Width.
Step 2: Circumference Measurements (Volume)
Use a soft measuring tape (or a string to be measured against a ruler) to take three-dimensional measurements. These ensure the "lock" of the shoe is secure. For best results, measurements should be taken while wearing the socks normally worn with the shoes.
The Ball: Wrap the tape around the widest part of the forefoot (where the foot flexes).
The Waist: Wrap the tape around the center of the arch. This is typically found by following the bone of the big toe up to a small protruding bump.
The Instep: Wrap the tape around the point where the foot and leg join. This is the most important measurement for a secure heel fit.
Understanding the Results
Once measurements are taken, enter them into the Turriff Fit Calculator.
The Heel Offset: The calculator automatically subtracts 5.5mm from the Wall Trace length. This accounts for the natural curve of the heel sitting within the shoe’s heel pocket.
The Golden Spot: Ideally, there should be between 12mm and 15mm of space in front of the toes. This allows for natural expansion and movement.
Volume and Lacing: It is perfectly acceptable for foot measurements to be below those of the last; however, the further below those measurements are, the snugger the fit will become. Conversely, Turriff footwear is designed with adjustable lacing to accommodate various foot volumes. The lacing gap can be adjusted to provide a secure fit even if measurements are slightly larger than the last.
Fit Disclaimer
Sizing is personal. No two feet are identical, and no one fits a standard size perfectly. This guide and calculator are professional resources to help achieve the best possible fit in standard sizing.
